Cows are an important part of Vietnam's agriculture and rural economy. They are generally primarily used for meat and dairy production, but also serve as draft animals in some parts of the country. Vietnam has several native cattle breeds, including the White Hai Ninh, the Black Mong Cai, and the Red Sindhi. In recent years, the government has been making efforts to improve the genetics of these breeds through selective breeding and artificial insemination. However, cross-breeding with imported breeds such as Holstein-Friesians is also common. Despite this, cows are still a common sight in rural areas of Vietnam, where they are often allowed to roam freely in fields and alongside roads.
